Why choosing the right duvet matters
Choosing the right duvet is essential if you want to get a good night’s sleep. If you’re too cold or hot, or you’re uncomfortable for any reason, you’re not going to sleep deeply and soundly.
The right duvet depends on several factors, including the warmth of your home, if you have allergies, and how you like to sleep.
Sleepseeker has made it easy for you to find the duvet you want according to brand, price, filling type, tog rating and size.
How to choose the perfect duvet filling
When it comes to what’s inside your duvet, you can choose between a synthetic or a natural filling. Synthetic-filled duvets are light and airy and sometimes easier to wash than naturally filled ones.
Natural-filled duvets will usually contain feathers, down or wool. Soft and luxurious, natural filled duvets like our wool duvets are durable and will last you for years and years.
Hollowfibre duvets
People who are sensitive to natural fibres like feathers, or suffer from allergies, may prefer synthetic hollowfibre duvets. They have non-allergenic properties and help keep you comfortably warm. Some hollowfibre duvets feel just like premium quality down, and some are made to be stain repellant and easy to wash in the machine. Hypoallergenic or anti-allergy duvets contain special fibres to fend off dust mites and bacteria, which can trigger an allergic reaction.
Duck or goose feather duvets
Duck and goose feather duvets are extra soft, lightweight and gentle. Feathers are nature’s way of providing insulation against the cold, and they’re incredibly efficient at regulating temperature.
Duck and goose feather duvets may be slightly more expensive, but they feel wonderful and bring a touch of luxury to bedtime.
Choosing the right duvet tog rating
The tog rating of a duvet refers to the quilt’s ability to trap air and retain heat. The higher the tog, the warmer the duvet, and the cosier you will be.
Some people like to have different tog duvets at home so they can change their bedding throughout the year according to the temperature or season, swapping between winter duvets and summer duvets.
Others might find that an all year round duvet is perfect for them - it depends on the bedroom temperature and your personal preference.
4.5 tog duvets
Most duvets in the UK are rated between 4.5 tog and 15 tog. For warm temperatures and summer months, you can’t go wrong with a 4.5 tog duvet.
7.5 tog duvets
A 7.5 tog duvet is lightweight and suitable for warmer temperatures. A duvet of this rating would be ideal for late spring and early autumn. If you usually feel warm when you sleep, you might be happy with a 7.5 tog no matter the season.
10.5 tog duvets
If you want a duvet for winter or for colder temperatures, a 10.5 tog could be the right choice. People who tend to always feel cold might be happy to sleep with a 10.5 tog duvet for most of the year.
13.5 tog duvets
At the warmer end of the scale are 13.5 tog duvets. Choose this rating for when temperatures drop in winter. You’ll be snug and cosy and probably won’t need any extra blankets, unless it’s very cold!
Which size duvet is right for me?
Choose the right size duvet according to the size of your bed and how you like to sleep. If you share your bed with someone who tends to pull the duvet off you or you like to cocoon yourself, you might want to go up one size.
At Sleepseeker, you can choose from single duvets, double duvets, king duvets and super king duvets.
